I have no idea where my baptismal certificate is these days. I'm impressed you'd still have it since age 2. So many theories about baptism! Apparently the folks at my baptism were more concerned about that... you know, just in case.

The ironic thing is that in my recent move to the Orthodox church, they wanted to see my baptism certificate from when I was a small child ( I think I was maybe 2 when I was baptized in the denomination of my parents) and the full immersion baptism-was-because-of-my-decision-to-follow-Christ.... no one was interested in. The Nicene Creed talks about believing in "one Lord, one faith, one baptism..." So my 'second' baptism was unnecessary in that theory.

Happy 2013!!! :) IsToonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3767755611010523671.post-60473954199936179472013-01-01T09:37:03.605-06:002013-01-01T09:37:03.605-06:00I can identify with that too Doug. This led me into a compulsive life of constantly repeating the prayer: "Lord, forgive me of all my sins and keep me ready to go with you." Many would probably find all this silly, but - for those of us who were immersed in a fundamentalist worldview - we understand perfectly. I knew some kids who really worried about figuring out exactly how many times they had disobeyed their parents and how many times they had lied in the previous week because they were afraid that if they told the priest the wrong number, it would be a lie and their sins wouldn't be forgiven. I never remember worrying about that though. I would just try to come up with a number that sounded reasonable. I guess I always figured that God wasn't really worried about exact details.VinnyJH57https://www.blogger.com/profile/17954441753543764706noreply@blogger.com
